Police have thwarted several alleged thieves accused of snatching Lego sets on B.C.’s South Coast.

With Christmas just weeks away, police say Lego is in high-demand, which has attracted the attention of opportunistic criminals.

“As we enter the holiday season, I want to caution shoppers to be careful when they’re buying from private sellers, and take appropriate cautions,” said Sgt. Jolaine Percival of the Squamish RCMP.

The first suspect was nabbed after officers stopped a vehicle speeding through a construction zone in West Vancouver on Nov. 16.

During the traffic stop, police allegedly saw the driver removing a large quantity of Lego boxes from the vehicle and arrested him.

The toys were later determined to have been stolen from Squamish, according to police.

The next week, Squamish Mounties were called to a theft-in-progress at a local store, and found two men allegedly loading a cart of Lego boxes into a vehicle and fleeing.

Police scoured the area and located two suspects on Highway 99. Both were arrested and the Lego boxes were seized.

Anyone who witnesses shoplifting is urged to contact the store manager and then police.c
