Pet owners on Pender Island are being warned to keep their animals close to home after a cat was fatally shot with an arrow this weekend.

Outer Gulf Islands RCMP received a report Saturday that someone had shot their pet cat, named Wishes.

The animal managed to return to its home on Schooner Way with the arrow embedded into it, but died a short time later at a veterinary clinic.

“Due to the circumstances, it is believed that this terrible act was done in close vicinity to the owner’s home,” a release from police stated.

The black 24-inch carbon fiber arrow has a “Judo” spring point arrow, which is commonly used to hunt small game.

Police, animal control and the BC SPCA are all investigating the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at (250) 629-6171.
