Hundreds of Telus customers in South Surrey were frustrated Sunday when a service outage happened before one of the biggest sporting events of the year.

Telus users took to Twitter to express their frustration at the service outage around 3 p.m. just as Super Bowl 49 was about to begin.

"Regional downage on @TELUS! South Surrey 30 minutes before super bowl! WHAT! #superbowlnightmare" wrote Twitter user Grant Lindemulder.

Telus representative Shawn Hall said a cable had been cut in South Surrey and crews were on the way to restore it Sunday evening.

Hall said it is not known how the cable was cut and crews would restore power as soon as possible.
