A young snowboarder in Whistler went through a terrifying ordeal this weekend after falling off a chairlift and falling many metres.

The 14-year-old was riding the Emerald Express Chair on Whistler Mountain around 10:40 a.m. Saturday when he somehow slipped just below the third lift tower.

The lift was stopped immediately and attendants ran out with a fireman's net to catch the teen.

Video from the scene shows the young man dangling in the air on the chair before letting go. He falls into the net before hitting the ground.

Whistler Blackcomb said the chair's restraining bar was not lowered at the time.

Ski patrol transported the snowboarder to the Whistler Medical Centre and there are reports he was injured in the fall.

Whistler Blackcomb told CTV Vancouver Tuesday afternoon it did not have further information about the incident, or his condition.
