Mounties are looking for a suspect after a 17-year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds walked into Surrey Memorial Hospital shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday for treatment.

Police believe the teen was shot near 73rd Avenue and 130A Street in Newton. Investigators found shell casings and broken glass on the road after receiving calls reporting shots fired, but there was no victim at the scene.

The hospital later contacted police to inform them that a 17-year-old with multiple gunshot wounds had driven himself there, police said.

A black van with shot-out windows and blood on the seat was towed from Surrey Memorial, and police said the boy was transferred to Royal Columbian Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He is in serious, but stable condition and is expected to survive, police said.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet told CTV News that police have yet to identify a suspect or a motive for the shooting, but they believe the victim was “specifically targeted.”

“He is known to police for a variety of reasons,” Paquet said of the victim.
