Police have busted a suspected brothel located near a pair of schools in a residential area of Abbotsford.

Authorities started receiving tips about a potential bawdy house around Townline Road and Gardner Avenue last December, according to the Abbotsford Police Department.

A months-long Major Crime Unit investigation was sparked culminating in a search of the home on May 29.

“Of additional concern to APD investigators was the proximity of the residence to an elementary school and a high school,” the department said in a release. “It was also important to determine if there was evidence of human Trafficking or the involvement of youth.”

Police haven’t revealed what they found at the home but said they have sufficient grounds to recommend charges of keeping a bawdy house against a 54-year-old Vancouver woman.

Her name will not be released unless the charges are approved.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Abbotsford police at 604-859-5225 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
