A 31-year-old man has been charged following a shocking crime spree in Port Moody that forced six schools to go on lockdown Tuesday.

Police believe the spree started early Monday morning when two women were attacked by a stranger with a knife on a trail in Aspenwood Park.

The victims managed to fight the robber off, but he escaped with one of their purses, along with her ID and keys.

On Tuesday morning, an armed man showed up at her family’s home, police said.

“Her father opens the door and the suspect is brandishing a firearm,” Const. Luke van Winkel said. “The dad’s able to fight off the suspect and he flees the area.”

Police arrived and managed to recover a gun, but the suspect was gone.

Due to the location of the home, authorities put six nearby schools on code yellow lockdown, meaning classes were still in session.

It wasn’t until hours later that officers were able to track down a suspect in neighbouring Coquitlam. Mounties were called after a woman was sexually assaulted and carjacked in the Eagle Mountain parking lot. Officers located the car and managed to pull it over after a brief pursuit.

On Wednesday, police confirmed 31-year-old Coquitlam resident Vahidreza Bordbar has been charged with a slew of counts, including break and enter with intent to commit an offence, possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, and two counts of sexual assault.

Bordbar is being held in custody and may face additional charges.
