White Rock Mounties are searching for a suspect who donned a conspicuous fake beard in a bizarre bank robbery this week.

The RCMP said a man walked into the HSBC on Johnston Road around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, told a teller he had a gun, and demanded money.

He was handed an undisclosed sum of cash and left on foot. No one was injured, and no gun was produced.

Surveillance photos taken in the bank show a suspect described as white, 25-35 years old, 5’11” tall with a big brown beard.

"Police believe the beard to be a disguise," the RCMP said in a release.

The suspect was wearing a black toque, a brown hoodie, and black athletic pants with a light-coloured stripe on the legs.

Anyone with information on the suspect or robbery is asked to call the White Rock RCMP at 778-593-3600, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS to remain anonymous.
