A 54-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal stabbing at an apartment suite in Surrey over the weekend.

Mounties were called to a building on 128th Street and 95 Avenue at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, and found Jeremy McLellan critically wounded inside.

The 35-year-old victim was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries less than an hour later.

A suspect was arrested at the scene. On Monday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced that William Engebretesen was charged with second-degree murder in the case.

Engebretsen lived at the apartment with McLellan and McLellan’s mother before the stabbing.

Police do not plan to release any further details while the case is before the courts.

Engebretsen remains in custody and is due to appear in court on Nov. 27.
