Surrey Mounties are hoping the public can help them track down a suspect accused in a horrific acid attack on an unsuspecting businesswoman last year.

It happened in September 2013, when a man allegedly entered Newton-area business Sinclair’s MotorSports and, making sure there were no witnesses around, threw a jar of muriatic acid at owner Tammy Sinclair.

Police believe Sinclair was targeted, but said her attacker was not known to her.

Sinclair was emotional as the surveillance video was played at a news conference Friday, looking away and sobbing while her husband held her hand.

She said she still doesn’t understand what prompted the attack, which caused scarring all over her face and inside her mouth, as well as damaged her eyesight.

“I remember talking to the gentleman, I remember something being thrown at me, and me going back in and I couldn’t breathe,” she told reporters Friday.

RCMP have released new surveillance photos of the suspect along with a possible suspect vehicle, a green Dodge Colt or Geo Metro, and two other men believed to be persons of interest in the investigation. All three are still at large.

They’ve also released a disturbing video of the attack, which shows the suspect chatting with the woman for nearly a minute before he throws the jar of acid into her face, which immediately begins smoking upon contact.

The main suspect is described as a mid-height white man in his 20s or 30s with short blond or light brown hair and no facial hair. He was wearing a black ball cap, dark-coloured hoodie, checkered shorts, white running shoes and was carrying a clear glass-like mug which contained the substance he threw on the woman’s face.

In a release, police said the attack had “devastating consequences” for Sinclair and her family.

Poilce are asking anyone with information to contact them at 604-599-7676 quoting file number 2013-118333 or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
