The police warning has been issued as two gas station attendants are recovering from serious gunshot wounds after the sixth armed robbery in Surrey, B.C. in less than 24 hours.

A 70-year-old worker and his 19-year-old colleague were shot around 7 p.m. Monday night when a man burst into the Tempo gas station at 108th Ave. and Scott Rd. and demanded cash.

The 70-year-old remains in critical condition in hospital.

Police have not said why the suspect suddenly opened fire, or whether he made off with any money.

RCMP have released a photo of the suspect taken at one of the area businesses and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

String of violent robberies

Police believe the suspect is responsible for another five armed robberies in the area Sunday night in the northeast part of the city.

In those cases, the suspect aimed a black handgun at clerks at five businesses and demanded cash.

He fired the gun in two of the robberies. In another, he pointed the gun at the head of a woman before escaping with her purse.

Police are looking for a man between 20 and 25-years-old, five-foot-nine to five-foot-eleven with a medium build, no facial hair. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a 'NY' symbol on the front and black track pants. The sweater has a white zipper in the front.
