Surrey Mounties are asking for the public’s help after an attempted shooting led to its intended victims fleeing a taxi cab Saturday night, they say.

RCMP said a taxi driver told them he was transporting four passengers on 102A Avenue near University Boulevard when an unknown vehicle pulled up beside him.

With both vehicles in motion, someone from the other car fired a single gunshot into the rear window on the driver’s side of the cab, he said.

The bullet passed through the compartment and out the other rear window, with all four passengers apparently unharmed, according to the driver.

The driver said he stopped his cab immediately as the suspect vehicle drove off. All four of the taxi’s passengers – two men and two women – took off without waiting to speak to police, he said.

He told CTV News he believes the passengers were in their 20s and possibly Caucasian. He said they weren’t as frightened by the incident as he would have expected.

The driver was not certain of the suspect vehicle’s colour or make.

RCMP said the passengers have not come forward and are now asking any witnesses or those who have information of either the suspect vehicle or the taxi occupants to contact them at 604-599-0502 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
