Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in a crash that seriously injured two people in Surrey early Saturday, according to police

Officers were called to 96th Avenue near 140th Street at around 7:15 a.m. after a grey 2002 Honda minivan traveling westbound struck a bus stop.

Two passengers in the vehicle were rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the driver was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Police are looking into whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. Two bottles of what appeared to be liquor could be seen on top of the trunk of a police cruiser near the scene.

Police are also investigating whether the passengers failed to wear seatbelts, which may have contributed to their injuries.

Anyone who witnesses the crash and has information is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
