The Victoria police chief has a bone to pick with absentminded cell phone users.
After someone accidentally called 911 a whopping 61 times on Wednesday, Chief Frank Elsner vented on social media.
“Tying up our 911 operators on pocket dials takes them away from real emergency calls,” he tweeted.
The force’s top cop is reminding people in Victoria that even old cell phones without a calling plan are still capable of calling 911 – and its operators are bound to try to find a caller to determine if an actual emergency exists.
“Your phone isn’t a toy for your child to play with,” said his final tweet.
The issue of pocket dialing isn't getting any better. Last night our Com Center received 61 calls from the same cell phone #communitySafety

Tying up our 911 Operators on pocket dials takes them away from real emergency calls. The cell phone industry needs to work with us

Old cell phones or ones not on a plan can still call 911. They aren't toys to let kids play with. Please keep 911 lines free for emergencies
