A man is dead following a high-speed crash along the corridor that separates Vancouver from Burnaby.

According to Burnaby RCMP, the man was speeding southbound on Boundary Road near Marine Drive at around 11:30 p.m. Friday when he lost control of his vehicle.

The car flew over a meridian and into oncoming northbound lanes then slid sideways into a light standard, killing the male driver, believed to be in his late 20s, on impact.

Police aren’t certain whether alcohol was a factor.

Investigators say pieces of debris from the vehicle were found as far as 300 metres away from where the crash happened.

An investigation is ongoing.
