VANCOUVER - British Columbia's winter storm continues to hit the Fraser Valley hard with up to 30 centimetres of snow expected this weekend.

Environment Canada says the snow is expected to ease off later Sunday, but that will be followed by a ridge of high pressure bringing drier conditions and colder temperatures next week.

A snowfall warning for Metro Vancouver was lifted Saturday, but concerns about road conditions still forced Simon Fraser University to cancel exams at its Burnaby campus in the afternoon.

The Alex Fraser Bridge was closed for most of the day in both directions due to falling ice and snow and reopened just before 6 p.m.

Snowfall warnings remain in place for east and inland Vancouver Island, with up to 20 centimetres expected.

Environment Canada warns visibility may be suddenly reduced in times of heavy snow and surfaces including roads and walkways may become difficult to navigate.
