A 76-year-old woman is in serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Abbotsford on Sunday.

The woman was hit at around 11 a.m. while crossing at a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Townline Road and Blueridge Drive, according to Abbotsford police.

The 21-year-old male driver was attempting to make a left turn when he hit the woman. The man stayed on scene and is cooperating with police. Abbotsford Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance personnel treated the woman and an air ambulance took her to the hospital with very serious injuries.

This latest car accident comes after two deadly crashes in B.C. on Saturday. One crash on the Coquihalla killed one person and injured five and a separate three-car collision killed one person and injured three more in Chilliwack at Lazenby and Ashwell Roads.

Traffic was at a dead stop on the Sea-to-Sky Highway Sunday morning after a car crashed into a construction crane sending two people to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Though speed has not yet been determined a primary factor in these crashes, several weeks ago the provincial government increased speed limits on some roads including the Coquihalla, the Sea-to-Sky Highway and Cowichan highways.

Investigations into the crashes are ongoing.
