A young robbery suspect ended up being the focus of a rescue operation after being chased by the homeowner and winding up on a cliff-face.
RCMP say a man came home to his house on Capilano Road around 4 p.m. Thursday to find a thief trying to break in.
The homeowner called police, but also decided to chase down the suspect.
Mounties say the suspect dropped a bag of jewelry in the road before running downstream on the Capilano River. He began climbing the cliff face, but became stuck and required help.
"We figured out where he was, he wasn't able to go anywhere and he more or less surrendered," said Sgt. Doug Trousdell of the North Vancouver RCMP.
The stranded suspect had to wait until the emergency response team and RCMP could bring ropes and rappel him down to make an arrest.
A 22-year-old North Vancouver man known to police was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police have not said if he will face criminal charges.
