The boyfriend of a B.C. realtor stabbed to death more than two years ago has been ruled out as a suspect in the murder, Saanich police announced Wednesday.

Sgt. Dean Jantzen said that Lindsay Buziak's boyfriend Jason Zailo and his family have met with police for extensive interviews since a Dateline NBC special on Buziak's murder aired last week.

"We would like to state unequivocally that no member of the Zailo family is considered a person of interest or a suspect in this investigation," Jantzen told reporters at a press conference.

"Our detectives are satisfied that the Zailos have no knowledge or any participation in this horrific crime."

Buziak, 24, was stabbed to death in a show home in the Victoria suburb on Feb. 2, 2008. Jason Zailo discovered the body.

Saanich police investigators turned to NBC after their investigation into the murder failed to yield any suspects.

The special aired on Friday, and by Tuesday police said they'd received 160 tips from as far away as New Jersey and Hawaii.

But Jantzen said the program also led to speculation about Jason Zailo's involvement in the murder.

"There's been much in the community, publicly, as far as finger-pointing, rumour, speculating, innuendo in many forms," Jantzen said.

He added that he decided to hold Wednesday's press conference to debunk those rumours.

In the NBC report, Saanich police said that Buziak did associate with some people who were involved in crime. They said that during her last visit with her father in Calgary, she made contact with an "old friend" who was later arrested in a massive cocaine bust.

However, no conclusive links have been drawn to the murder, and there is no evidence that Buziak committed any crimes.

Police have said that they believe Buziak may have been targeted by a man and a woman posing as potential buyers, and that the killing could have been based on mistaken information.
