RCMP investigators are searching a rural property near Prince George, B.C., in connection with an unsolved historic homicide case, officials announced Thursday.

Authorities say they are looking for evidence at a property located at 31645 Pinewood Road in the District of Isle Pierre, west of Prince George.

They say they do not believe the current residents are connected to the case under investigation.

CTV News has learned that the former property owner -- Leland Switzer -- is in jail for killing his brother.

Officials have not identified the case they are probing. The search could take several days, according to an RCMP press release.

The Prince George Citizen reported Thursday that the property is five acres. The on-scene RCMP contingent includes members of the provincial Unsolved Homicide Unit, the Forensic Identification Unit and the Prince George detachment.

Authorities will not confirm nor deny that the investigation is linked to the notorious Highway of Tears -- the stretch of Highway 16 between Prince George and Prince Rupert where at least 11 women have gone missing.

RCMP say they will release more information after they finish interviewing people in the area.
