Whisky aficionados in B.C. will get the chance of a lifetime on Monday, when BC Liquor Stores reveal a rare bottle of scotch worth a hefty $33,500.
The 50-year-old Balvenie Fifty is one of only 88 worldwide, and will be the first to be available in Canada, said the Liquor Distribution Branch.
It will be up for sale at the BC Liquor Stores flagship store on Cambie and 39th Avenue in Vancouver on Monday. While samples of the fine whisky won’t be offered, customers can sample a variety of other whiskies from the same distillery.
According to the distillery, the Balvenie Fifty was matured in a European oak sherry hogshead, and is a fragrant and floral whisky with sweet citrus notes.
A 55-year-old bottle of Glenfiddich single malt, called Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve, was sold at an auction in Toronto for $52,000 in Toronto in October. It is one of only 11 bottles left in the world.
