One man is in custody following an early morning shooting in an upscale residential neighbourhood in Abbotsford.

Police responded to several reports of multiple shots fired just before 5 a.m. Thursday.

After conducting a street by street sweep, patrol officers found shell casings outside a home in the 34700 block of Hammond Drive.

While they were examining bullet holes in the residence, a man jumped out of a third-storey window, says Const. Ian MacDonald.

He was arrested without incident, but police aren't sure what his connection is to the home, or the shooting.

"At this point we don't believe he's the shooter," said MacDonald, who added the suspect has had previous interactions with Abbotsford Police.

A sweep of the home revealed a grow operation inside. Investigators are now trying to determine who the primary tenant is.

"We aren't sure if this is an attempted robbery of the grow-op or simply a drive-by shooting," MacDonald said.

"If there's a message here it's that if you participate in criminal activity you are putting yourself in harm's way. Easily some of those rounds could have hit that guy."

Police are still looking for the weapon.
