The B.C. Police Complaint Commissioner has been asked to investigate footage of an officer swerving his SUV into the path of oncoming longboarders in West Vancouver.

The video was shot during an illegal longboarding ride down Finch Hill Road last week, and has sparked outrage on social media since being uploaded to YouTube.

The West Vancouver Police Department launched an internal investigation into the officer’s conduct, but announced Wednesday it has requested a Complaint Commissioner probe instead.

In the footage, the boarders can be seen veering to the sides of the road to avoid the vehicle, causing at least one of them to crash on the pavement.

The officer was filmed denying he moved into their path on purpose, saying “All I did was slam on my brakes.”

The boarders were ticketed for breaking a West Vancouver bylaw banning longboarding.
