The SPCA is investigating the discovery of pill-stuffed hotdogs found on a trail in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.

A woman walking her dog on the trail found some suspicious looking wieners and brought them to the local SPCA. Inside, officials found dozens of pills.

Neighbours say someone in the area has been complaining about a stray dog and posted a notice about it.

“For the time being we are a little concerned that there is more of this out there and want people to know that in the Edwin Road, Headquarters [Road] area that there could be something that could not only risk their dogs but also children and wildlife,” said Leon Davis of the BC SPCA

So far, it's not known if any animals ate any of the tainted meat or what substance was in the pills. The matter in the pills has been sent to a lab for testing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Courtenay RCMP at 250-338-1321.
