Willingdon Avenue in Burnaby was closed for several hours Thursday night after a pedestrian was struck and killed.

RCMP says a man was struck by a car in the southbound lane just before 3 p.m.

Staff Sgt. Robert Marks said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the accident.

Traffic was blocked off on the busy commuter route for several hours while police investigated.

The deceased’s name has not been released.
