A fire in a vacant home in the 7300-block of Granville Street sent one person to hospital Saturday morning.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services responded to the blaze at roughly 8 a.m., and located a man in the basement of the boarded-up building.

Battalion Chief Les Achtymichuk told CTV News the fire began on the second floor. It’s “unknown at this time” whether the man in the basement was squatting in the building, Achtymichuk said.

“It was a vacant home,” he said. “They used forcible entry to get into the main side of the house here.”

The man did not appear to have sustained any injuries, Achtymichuk said. BC Ambulance also responded to the scene.

The response to the blaze closed Granville Street in both directions while crews were on scene. The cause of the fire is unknown.
