A photo demonstrating a campfire team building exercise at the Vancouver Canucks training camp this weekend quickly turned into a firestorm of criticism online.
A photo tweeted out by the team Sunday night shows four prospects trying to build a small campfire during a group exercise at its Shawnigan Lake training camp.
The caption: “Back on track. Start a fire.”
But while the majority of B.C. has been under a campfire ban since Friday – and there are nearly 200 active wildfires in the province – people didn’t take kindly to the post.
Fans took to Twitter to express over the post, saying it was inappropriate and ill-timed, given the severity of the wildfire situation in B.C.
@VanCanucks Uh, what? You look out the window recently? This the most appropriate tweet right now? #BCwildfire

@Vandir7y You think it's silly to blast them for tweet showing prospects about to start a fire, yes? Tweet was inappropriate = not ok.

Within one hour the team apologized for the tweet.
"This was not appropriate on our part. Poor decision. Our sincere apologies everyone," the team tweeted.
