Almost a year later, a suspect has been arrested and charged in the May, 2009, murder of Damon Michael Martin.

Martin, 33, was found dying of a gunshot wound on a Surrey, B.C., roadside on May 12.

Police said he had been shot in a house on 132nd Street and then stumbled wounded to the area of Highway 10. He was taken by air ambulance to hospital, where he died several hours later.

Martin had no links to drugs, gangs or organized crime, according to police.

"Nikki Sixx" Serafino, a 28-year-old resident of Langley, B.C., was arrested by Surrey RCMP on Friday and has been charged with second-degree murder in Martin's death.

Serafino is known to police and previously went by the name Jeffrey Alan Smith. His alias is presumably inspired by Mötley Crüe bass player Nikki Sixx.

Serafino is being held in police custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 14.
