Police are on the lookout for a suspect in his 20s or 30s who allegedly attacked a vehicle with a machete as its driver prepared to exit a parkade near 7th and Belmont Streets in New Westminster.

After the attack, the driver sped out of the lot, located near 7th and Belmont streets, but stopped a few blocks away to get out and look at the damage.

That’s when the attacker reappeared, still sporting the machete.

Police said he slashed at one of the victims, who managed to fend off the attacker and knock the blade loose as they both fell do the ground.

The assailant managed to get to his feet and grab the machete before running off.

The victim did not know the attacker and suffered cuts to his fingers and knee in the attack.

Wearing a grey sweatshirt with a white circle and white lettering on the front and blue jeans with white stitching and a U symbol on the back pockets, the attacker is described as white, 20 to 30 years-old with a slim build.
