Fire crews across Metro Vancouver were kept busy on Sunday as several blazes broke out across the region.

An intense fire in Surrey left a home completely gutted, according to officials.

The blaze broke out just after 9 a.m. at the corner of Grosvenor Road and Kindersley Drive, billowing smoke that could be seen several kilometres away.

The home was up for sale, fire officials confirmed, and the owner was planning to move out this week.

Witnesses say several people – and their dogs – were seen leaving the home soon after the fire began.

It was not immediately clear if the fire has been deemed suspicious, but the RCMP was on scene. Early reports suggest the blaze began in a bedroom.

A second fire was located in Vancouver, where fire crews had to cut a hole into the roof of a home on Lakewood Drive to extinguish a blaze.

The homeowner apparently also tried to put on the fire with a garden hose, something firefighters do not recommend.

A third fire was battled at a home on 214 Place in Langley, and was upgraded to a second-alarm blaze.

Two people were treated on scene for smoke inhalation.

Neighbours say the fire may have started in a washroom ceiling fan, noting that flames were shooting through the roof.

All three fires are currently under investigation.
