One man is dead after being shot by Mounties near Crescent Beach in South Surrey.

The shooting happened around 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the 3000-block of McBride Avenue, just two blocks back from the popular beach and boardwalk.

RCMP Sgt. Peter Thiessen said police were called to the home to attend to an emergency call, but would not elaborate on the nature of the call. Three officers were confronted by one adult man at the scene.

Thiessen said he did not know how many shots were fired.

Witnesses told CTV News that they heard a young woman was seen running away from the home and jumping over a fence before police arrived. They said they also saw a man run out of the house shouting and looking "out of it."

The Vancouver Police Department has been called in to investigate the shooting.

Images captured from CTV's Chopper 9 show a person lying face up in front of a home with "Casa Linda" written on the archway at the entrance. Multiple police and medical teams can be seen around the home.

An online real estate listing for the "Casa Linda" shows the listing price at $1.65 million. The home was sold in April 2010.
