An investigation has been launched after a U.S. skier died on Whistler Mountain Monday.

Mounties say the 43-year-old Oklahoma man was found unresponsive by a fellow skier in the Franz’s Meadows area.

Officers, physicians and members of the Whistler Blackcomb Ski Patrol were called to the scene, but were unable to revive the skier.

His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Based on the man’s injuries and location of the body, Mounties believe he fell to his death off a cliff.

The Whistler RCMP detachment and the BC Coroners Service are continuing to investigate the death.
