The human remains found at a gravel pit just outside Whistler last month belong to a 19-year-old man who was visiting from Australia, Mounties revealed Tuesday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed the deceased is Jake Brian Kermond, a young man who had been staying in the Whistler area since March.

A local discovered his body near Function Junction on June 17.

Weeks later, investigators said they still haven’t confirmed Kermond met with foul play, but his death is considered suspicious.

“Police are asking anyone with information to come forward, particularly those who knew Jake in the days preceding his disappearance and ultimately his death,” Sgt. Stephanie Ashton said in a release.

Kermond was last seen around 7:30 p.m. on April 26 leaving the Adara Hotel in Whistler. He was wearing a baggy green jacket, dark pants and a black and white baseball cap.

Some of his belongings have yet to be recovered, including person items containing his identification and his Armada skis with blue and orange bindings.
