Patrons at a Kamloops bar were surprised during Friday’s karaoke night when a Mountie doing his rounds suddenly grabbed the mic.

“We thought he was going to make an announcement for everyone to leave or something like that, but then a song starts playing and everyone starts cheering,” says Cora MacLaren, who posted a video of the performance on Facebook. “He was actually pretty good so they started cheering even louder!"

Const. Kevin Roy’s rendition of American singer-songwriter Five for Fighting’s “Superman” while in uniform made a big impression – both at the Central Station Pub and on Facebook. MacLaren’s video on the social media site has gathered more than 140,000 hits, and a lot of positive feedback.

Kamloops RCMP, however, may not be as impressed. Officials are refusing to comment on the matter – and have ordered the singing cop to keep quiet too.

Const. Roy was later spotted dancing at another night club, but MacLaren says the cop was definitely on-duty.

"He was talking to the people…definitely talking to the kids and making sure they stay out of trouble you know?” says MacLaren. “Making sure they're ok. He was doing his job for sure."

The singing Mountie may have received a standing ovation after his spontaneous performance, but based on the lack of response from his employer Kamloops residents shouldn’t expect an encore.
