A man was arrested in Langley following reports that a motorcycle rider jumped the border into B.C. on Thursday afternoon.

Mounties said the biker drove through a ditch near the Aldergrove crossing around 1 p.m. The motorcyclist managed to flee into Canada, but was tracked by RCMP helicopter to Willowbrook Mall in Langley.

Several police officers converged on the mall, but they were unable to find the suspect in the mall. However, they used mall surveillance footage to identify a suspect, a man known to police.

Officers drove to his home and saw him get into a vehicle with a woman. They drove a short distance, pulled over, and the suspect was arrested.

Police said he was unarmed, and they will be recommending charges against him.

Initial reports suggested that two men, both on motorcycles, jumped the border at the same time. Police in Lynden, Wash. have since said that the motorcyclists had no connection.

The other biker fled from police in Washington, but wiped out and was arrested. He was a Lynden resident with a suspended licence, officers said.

Langley RCMP provided more information, saying the Washington arrest followed reports from Abbotsford police that a person on a motorcycle had been seen by a member of the public jumping the border into the U.S.

The report was filed half an hour before the other biker 'jumped' northbound into Canada.
