Vietnamese youth held a vigil Sunday for a man fatally shot by Vancouver police last month.

Du Na Phuong was shot at a south Vancouver intersection on Nov. 22 after police received calls about a distraught man waving a two-by-four.

Organizer Chanel Ly says she is deeply disturbed by the circumstances of the man's death and wants to open a dialogue about violence, mental health and racism.

She and four other Vietnamese youth organized the vigil at the intersection where Phuong was killed.

She says about 100 people attended and they held candles and 52 white flowers to represent every year he would have lived had he made it to his birthday in December.

Police have said they attempted to disarm the man with bean bag rounds before shooting.

B.C.'s police watchdog, the Independent Investigations Office, is currently investigating the incident.
