One man is dead following a shooting in a normally quiet Surrey neighbourhood early Saturday morning.

The incident happened near 145th Street and 83A Avenue just after midnight.

“I heard about five, six time[s], bang bang bang. So I thought it might be someone driving, shooting,” said nearby resident Hardev Sandhu.

Neighbours said they heard a vehicle squeal away and soon after police were on the scene.

At least a dozen officers were in the area Saturday afternoon. Behind the police lines a truck sat with a shattered side window and holes in the windshield.

According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team the incident appeared to be targeted.

Still, neighbours like Amar Pal were shaken following the frightening incident.

“I could have been walking down that [street] and been a victim along with [him]. So that kind of thing gets you scared,” he said.

Few details have been released and Surrey RCMP Chief Supt. Bill Fordy said the investigation is in the early stages.

“The investigation is very fresh,” Fordy said. “We've got a team out looking into it, trying to first determine exactly what took place at the scene and then start to look at the victim, and the investigation will progress from there."

Investigators will provide an update on the case and identify the victim on Monday.
