Vancouver police say a senior who was struck in a downtown intersection earlier this month has died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

The 79-year-old pedestrian was struck by a van at the intersection of Davie and Thurlow streets shortly after noon on Jan. 16, police said.

He was taken to hospital with a head injury, but died as a result of his injuries on Wednesday.

The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and no charges have been laid. Speed and alcohol do not appear to have played a role, police said.

A VPD collision investigation unit is still investigating the crash. Police saide it is the second traffic-related death in the city in 2015.
