A Surrey teen is looking for a helping hand as he campaigns for a replacement prosthetic.

Drew Daniel was born without a left hand and has difficulty completing simple tasks with his current prosthetic.

War Amps helped him afford his current hand but Daniel has his eyes on a much more efficient replacement.

The 18-year-old has started an online campaign to raise money for a high-tech bionic hand called the Bebionic 3.

His current hand only has the ability to open and close and has one grip called the "pinch grip". Daniel said this grip is only useful for tying his shoelaces. He said the hand has also lost its grip and is unreliable.

“I seem to find not using it more useful,” Daniel said.

The cutting edge prosthetic can move 16 different ways, rotate 360 degrees and picks up muscle movements in the wearer’s arm. This state of the art will cost a total of $28,000.

“I just can’t simply do that on my own,” Daniel said. “I’ve had family and friends helping me so far but I can’t really reach the amount of people that I want to.”

Daniel hopes to be able to do things other teens take for granted that he has never been able to attempt.

"I’ve always wanted to work out and lift weights and stuff,” he said. “If had that arm, it can lift up to sixty-five pounds so I could definitely use it to work out, build muscle."

Daniel said it would take him a decade to raise enough money for the bionic hand alone.

He hopes that this life-changing technology soon won’t be so far out of reach.
