Police are searching for a heartless thief who snatched mobility devices from two seniors in the Fraser Valley.
Abbotsford resident Cec Hindmarsh has trouble getting around, but the 85-year-old still tries to spend time outside his retirement home every day.
He relies on a walker to move short distances and a motorized scooter for everything else, which is why it was so upsetting to discover the latter was missing a few days ago.
“I was very upset. I couldn’t figure out why anyone would come along and take a scooter,” Hindmarsh said.
“It had to be someone that’s really depraved and lacks any sensitivity.”
The scooter was stolen from the seniors home’s underground parking lot, as was a 92-year-old woman’s motorized chair.
Police are investigating, but haven’t turned up any strong leads.
“We’ve spoken to homeowners in the area and so far we haven’t been able to come up with any information to suggest who took these items,” Const. Paul Walker said.
Hindmarsh has dipped into his savings to order a new scooter at a cost of about $5,000, but he’s still hopeful the old one will be returned.
Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to contact police.
