1. Innocent man attacked: The VPD are appealing for people to come forward after a sucker-punch attack left an innocent man with a brain injury. Police say the “one-punch” attacks are becoming more common, and the consequences can be deadly.

2. Refunds? What refunds? In the wake of an eight-hour shutdown that left commuters stranded in downtown Vancouver on Tuesday, TransLink says it will not be offering any refunds. Maintenance teams are blaming a one-in-a-million sequence of events for the problems.

3. Sating demand: Vancouver cab companies may be against bringing in Uber or companies from outside of the city to help deal with peak hours, but they are supporting a plan to run a part-time fleet of cabs when there is high demand. The Vancouver Taxi Association issued a statement saying it needs to get more cabs on the road to meet demand, and says a flexible fleet of part-time city cabs would alleviate the pressure.

4. Looking for help: A non-profit farm that takes in sick, old and unwanted pets is asking the public to open up their homes to free up space before they get swamped with animals dumped during the holidays. Every year they see an influx of pets in the run up to the holidays.

5. Hoax or hate? Facebook is investigating several groups that promote a “white student union” at universities across the country. Two such pages have popped up for the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia.
