A 20-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder for the brazen gangland execution of Craig Widdifield.

The newly married 28-year-old was getting into his Mercedes outside a Steve Nash Fitness Centre in Surrey when he was gunned down in broad daylight on April 24, 2013.

Witnesses said Widdifield was shot at close range multiple times, with one bullet aimed directly at his face.

At the time, authorities described the murder victim as a young gangster, although his father said he had confided plans about planning to leave his life of crime.

On Friday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced a man under surveillance and “known to police” was arrested in Surrey this morning.

Brodie Patterson, 20, is now charged with first-degree murder.

Mounties believe there will be further arrests in the case, and maintain that Widdifield’s death was targeted because of his gang associates.

Widdifield leaves behind a young son.
