One man is dead and another is injured after a double stabbing in Richmond Saturday night.

According to police, the stabbing happened in the 6400 block of Comstock Road.

Officers received reports that two men had been stabbed around 7:30 p.m.

Witnesses said two large groups were meeting in the street when things went wrong.

There is no information on the victims or what caused the fight, though RCMP said the incident was not random.

"We have no reason to believe that this is a random event," said Insp. Davis Wendell. "It is our belief that the victim and the assailants were known to each other, and there's no reason to believe that anyone in the public currently is in any danger."

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the investigation.
