The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed the body found in a car near a Surrey elementary school Wednesday night belongs to missing 29-year-old Vimal Chand, and it appears he was murdered.

Officers found the body at around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and determined the case was a homicide.

The body was discovered by a passerby. Neighbours indicate the car had been parked in the area near Hyland Elementary School for four days.

A source close to Chand's family confirmed with CTV News that his body had been found. His family reported him missing earlier this week.

Chand reportedly hadn’t been seen since Saturday night at his parents' home.

Officials have provided little information so far on how Chand may have died.

IHIT took over the file from Surrey RCMP early Thursday morning.
