The weekend’s hot weather has prompted Metro Vancouver to issue an air quality advisory for eastern parts of the metro region and the Fraser Valley.

High concentrations of ground-level ozone are expected to persist until there is a change in the current hot and sunny weather pattern.

Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities during the mid-afternoon -- when ozone levels are highest -- and to be mindful of exposure for infants, the elderly, and those with medical conditions like lung or heart disease or asthma. These groups can be particularly affected by ozone.

Real-time air quality readings for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, as well as information about their potential health impacts, can be found at www.airmap.ca and www.bcairquality.ca.
