Firefighters were called to the same North Vancouver construction site twice overnight after separate groups of men climbed a crane and couldn’t get back down.

The first group of misguided men scaled the crane, located near Bewicke Avenue and Queens Road, around midnight.

District of North Vancouver Asst. Fire Chief Dave Burgess said crews were forced to use a ladder to help them to safety, where they were promptly arrested by Mounties.

“A couple hours later we had a second group of males also climbing the crane at this site,” Burgess said. “Again, our personnel responded and escorted those people to the ground.”

The second group was taken into custody as well, though it’s unclear whether any of the men will be facing charges.

Burgess urged the public to resist the urge to climb construction equipment, noting that potential thrill-seekers risk firefighters’ safety as well as their own.

These types of incidents also tie up valuable emergency resources, he added.

“We would prefer not to respond to these types of calls for a number of reasons,” Burgess said.
