Mounties are investigating a targeted shooting that put a man and woman in hospital early Sunday evening in Surrey.

Cpl. Scotty Schumann said officers received a report of gunfire at a home near 152nd Street and 44th Avenue around 5 p.m.

“When we got there a man and a woman were found suffering gunshot wounds. Thankfully [they were] non-life threatening injuries,” Cpl. Scotty Schumann said. “Both were taken to local area hospital where they remain today.”

The man and woman, ages 33 and 22, are both known to police, as is the home where they were found.

Schumann said while a potential motive for the shooting hasn’t been determined, Mounties believe it was targeted.

“Members from our Serious Crime Unit are now leading this investigation and they’ve received some good info that leads us to believe that this incident was targeted and there’s no risk to the general public,” he said.

Investigators are still waiting to interview with the victims, and there are no suspect or suspect vehicle descriptions available.

The RCMP is asking anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area of the shooting Sunday evening to contact them.
