One man has been rushed to hospital following a brazen daytime shooting in the parking lot of a busy Langley shopping centre.

It happened outside of the IGA at 88th Ave. and 202 St. in the Walnut Grove area just after 4 p.m. Friday.

Teams from the Langley RCMP detachment have cordoned off a large area and are sweeping the area for evidence.

A gray pickup truck double-parked beside the entrance of the store has been taped off. The driver's side window is shattered.

Nicole Watt says she was washing tables when she heard what sounded like fireworks in the parking lot.

"I looked up to see a guy with a handgun shooting at the truck," he says. "The whole parking lot was full of smoke."

Watt says she says she saw a man jump into a blue minivan and speed away from the scene.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the nearby Colossus movie theatre on 91A Avenue, where he was airlifted to hospital by Medivac helicopter.

His condition is not known.
