A 33-year-old with no criminal record has been identified as the man shot dead in Maple Ridge late Tuesday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says Trevor Koehler was found suffering multiple gunshot wounds after police were called to a home in a brand-new subdivision near 240th Street and 103rd Avenue.

He was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.

Neighbour Ezekiel Kiramathypathy told CTV News he heard an argument inside the home before shots were fired.

“What drew my attention is someone yelling ‘no, no’ followed by what sounded like two shots,” he said.

Neighbours say an older couple lives in the home with their son and that they moved in around a year ago.

Another neighbour said they saw someone run behind their house and into a back lane while fleeing the scene.

Investigators are searching for a light-coloured, cream or white compact import car – possibly a Honda, Toyota or Acura.

IHIT says the victim is not known to police and the incident doesn’t appear to be linked to gangs.

“Trevor was the victim of a targeted attack and this was not a random occurrence. IHIT continues to work with the Ridge Meadows RCMP to determine why this shooting occurred and who is responsible." said Sgt. Adam MacIntosh.

Anyone with information or who may have been in the area to contact the IHIT tip line by calling 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
