A man has been critically injured in a targeted stabbing in Surrey early Monday morning.

RCMP say they were called to the Port Kells neighbourhood, east of the Port Mann Bridge, just after midnight following reports of shots heard in the area. Officers originally believed the man had been shot, but later declared the incident a stabbing.

The man was rushed to hospital where he was treated for what turned out to be non-life threatening wounds.

The name of the man hasn't been released and there's no word on whether police have any suspects in the attack.

The stabbing closed 92nd Avenue between 184th and 187th streets for several hours, but traffic is now moving again.
